Ritu Phogat is back in the ONE Atomweight Grand Prix and the Indian Tigress will be going up against Meng Bo of China in the first round of the tournament. The matchup will happen at ONE: Empower on September 3, 2021, and is bound to be an exciting showdown considering the skillset that both fighters bring to the table.
Ritu recently ended a long winning streak of Lin Heqin and improved her professional record to 5-1 with the win as well. Meng, meanwhile, is currently ranked third in the ONE Atomweight Division and has a professional record of 17-5 to her name.
Although Meng has more experience, Ritu sees it as a fresh challenge and is confident ahead of the fight.
“I am looking at [Meng] as a new challenge, and I am ready for it. I rate all my opponents equally. Both have more experience than me, so I don’t want to compare them,” Ritu said during her recent interview with ONE Championship.
The Indian MMA star further went on to add that she has already developed a game plan for Meng Bo.
“She is a great fighter, and I respect her a lot. I don’t want to say anything about her weaknesses, but I have developed a game plan for her, which you will get to see inside the Circle. All I want to say is that my biggest strength is my wrestling, and it will be her biggest weakness,” she added.
The Atomweight Grand Prix offers Ritu an opportunity to fast track to her goal of becoming the ONE Atomweight World Champion. The Indian, however, currently has all her focus on Meng.
“I want to win all the matches of the ONE Women’s Atomweight World Grand Prix and show the world that Indian fighters can be the best. Also, I want to prove that I am one of the best fighters in the atomweight division. Right now, my focus is on Meng Bo, I want to overcome this challenge first. After that, whatever challenges I will have to face to win the [Grand Prix] belt, I will be ready,” she concluded.
