Reinier De Ridder and Andre Galvao locked horns in the much-awaited submission grappling match today at ONE X.
The match was contested in one round of 12 minutes and at the three-minute mark, Galvao almost got the back of De Ridder. The Dutchman, however, fended off the challenge and started mounting his own offense. The superior reach of De Ridder was coming into the play as the minutes progressed. Galvao was working from the bottom for the most part of the minutes that followed after his attempted back take. The Brazilian landed a takedown and got on top with four minutes to go but was met with stiff resistance from the ONE Middleweight and Light Heavyweight champion. With a minute to go, Galvao landed on the mount but failed to finish the fight as the time ran out. The fight was ruled as a draw after 12 minutes.
Reinier De Ridder made a quick turnaround for the match following his ONE Middleweight title defense against Kiamrian Abbasov. De Ridder had a dominant performance against Abbasov who is the reigning ONE Welterweight champion. Prior to this, the Dutchman had secured two back-to-back wins over Myanmar superstar Aung La N Sang. These wins made De Ridder a double champion in ONE Championship as well.
Andre Galvao, meanwhile, recently signed with ONE Championship. The fourth-degree black belt is a multiple-time ADCC World Championship medallist and has a mixed martial arts record of 5-2 to his name as well. His last fight in MMA came back in 2010 against former UFC Champion Tyron Woodley as well.
ONE X is the 10th-anniversary special card from ONE Championship and has a long list of exciting fights on offer for the fans with the event being headlined by the ONE Atomweight title showdown between Angela Lee and Stamp Fairtex. The much-awaited special rules fight between Demetrious Johnson and Rodtang is also another major attraction on the card.
