Matrix Fight Night returned with Matrix Fight Night 7 today from the Taj Falaknuma Palace in Hyderabad. The event was headlined by the showdown between Afghanistan’s Abdul Azim Badakhshi and Brazil’s Marcelo Guarilha.

The fight started off with Badakhshi getting the upper hand as he was having some success on the clinch. The Afghan Lion soon got a takedown to his name as well later in the round. Marcelo bounced back with a takedown of his own with ten seconds to go in the round.

The second round opened with a huge takedown for Badakhshi. Marcelo had his moments in the round although Badakhshi was pushing for the finish. Marcelo tried to for an arm-bar midway through the second round only to get slammed. The slam proved to be costly for Marcelo who was finished via ground and pound by Badakhshi shortly afterward.

Dhruv Chaudhary takes home the trilogy

Dhruv Chaudhary took home the trilogy bout in style as he stopped Sumeet Khade in the first round via ground and pound. Dhruv took things to the ground early in the round itself and landed some huge punches from the top. Although Sumeet was trying to squeeze out of the bottom position, Dhruv continued his dominance on top until the fight was stopped.

Angad Bisht came back to winning ways with a decision win over Chungreng Koren. Chungreng impressed in his promotional debut in MFN and delivered an excellent performance which saw him get the better of Angad at times. But the performance was not enough to convince the judges who ruled in favor of Angad via unanimous decision.

Shyamanand, Jojo Rajkumari, and Clinton D’Cruz secure wins

Shyamanand produced a dominant performance against Abhishek Negi and took home a second-round TKO win. Shyam dominated from the start itself and bloodied up Abhishek in the first round with some slicing elbows on the ground. A similar scene unfolded in the second round which resulted in the stoppage.

Jojo Rajkumari secured a quick win in her showdown with Ishika Thite. Jojo pushed from the opening bell and landed some huge punches before taking things to the ground. One thing led to the other and Jojo submitted Ishika with an armbar and bounced back strongly from her loss against Puja Tomar.

Clinton D’Cruz and Sahil Rana delivered an exciting fight as expected. Clinton opened strongly and dropped Sahil early on. Sahil, however, managed to get his momentum back as the fight progressed though Clinton was having success on the ground. The fight went the complete distance much to the surprise of many and in the end, it was ruled in favor of Clinton via a split decision.

Undercard fighters impress

In the opener of the undercard, Arshiyan Memon made a memorable promotional debut by stopping Bishwamitra in the third round. After suffering a loss in his promotional debut, Bonjovi made a strong comeback and stopped Gajender Rawat with ground and pound.

The last undercard fight saw Mandeep Prajapati and Karan Singh going the distance. It was the ground control of Mandeep that proved to be the difference in the scorecard as he won the fight via a split decision. You can see the complete results from Matrix Fight Night 7 below.
