Punyajit Likharu had made a huge statement with his professional MMA debut recently and now, he will be looking to carry forward that momentum to the mats when he competes at Leverage Fight Night IX on December 18, 2020, in Delhi.

A blue belt under Siddharth Singh of Crosstrain Fight Club, Punyajit was initially scheduled to compete against Chaitanya Gavali at the tournament but Chaitanya was later replaced by Raajus Dewan due to scheduling conflicts.

While Punyajit was indeed looking forward to competing against Chaitanya, during his interview with Leverage Radio, he revealed that it’s about having fun for him.

“For me, the most important thing will be to go out there and have fun. I love competing in such tournaments. They’re really fun for me so that’s the game plan: as long as I have fun, I do good,” he said.

He also went on to note that Leverage Fight Night will help to increase the level of grappling in India while adding that he will be saving the prize money if he ends up winning the tournament.

“When you bring so many skilled guys under one roof, it definitely increases the level of the sport here in India. Secondly, a good amount of money is being put for the winner which is a great motivation for the up and coming kids that you know, they can join the sport and they can earn money,”

Leverage Fight Night IX will have 16 grapplers from across the nation competing for prize money of Rs. 1 lakh. The event will be streamed live on the Facebook page of Leverage Fight Night on December 18, 2020.
