The fighting career of Khabib Nurmagomedov might be over but he is making some big moves as a promoter of Eagle Fighting Championship.
At the FITROO press conference last day, the former UFC champion revealed that EFC is close to signing Kevin Lee who was recently released from the UFC. Khabib also went on to add that the promotion is ‘open for everything’ including signing Tony Ferguson and Cody Garbrandt as per RT Sports.
“Anything is possible, we are open to everything. In two days, when we will be holding another press conference, we will be ready to announce the signing of Kevin Lee. We are close to finalizing the deal but nothing is official yet. Why not? These guys have built themselves throughout their careers. They have 10 fights in the UFC, are former champions of the UFC,” Nurmagomedov said [h/t BJPenn.com]
Lee was shockingly released from the UFC recently after going on a two-fight losing streak which saw him suffer defeats against Daniel Rodriguez and reigning Lightweight champion Charles Oliveira. Prior to this, he had also suffered losses to Rafael Dos Anjos, Al Iaquinta, and Tony Ferguson but also picked up wins over Gregor Gillespie, Edson Barboza, and Michael Chiesa among others.
Interestingly, EFC is set to make its USA debut in January and will feature the return of UFC Hall of Famer Rashad Evans. Khabib’s update on Lee underlines the intentions of the promotion and it would be interesting to see what the future moves will be.
