The International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF) has signed up to the World Anti-Doping Code under the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). The announcement was made by WADA today through their official website.
“The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) is pleased to announce that the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation has become the latest Signatory to the World Anti-Doping Code (Code), becoming the first organization to do so under the revised Policy for Acceptance of New Signatories that came into effect at the beginning of 2021,” The statement from WADA read.
IMMAF president Kerrith Brown reacted to the news with a tweet and said that the IMMAF is the only International MMA body with WADA signatory status.
“Today, @IMMAFed can be proud that its gold standard in clean #MMA has been formally recognised. IMMAF becomes the only international MMA governing body with WADA signatory status, based on 6 years’ Code compliance,” Kerrith Brown noted.
WADA President Witold Banka also shared his thoughts on the development.
“WADA is pleased to welcome the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation into the Clean Sport community. In signing the Code, it joins the approximately 700 sports organizations that have already pledged their support to the harmonized global anti-doping movement,” Banka said.
The development is expected to be a huge boost for IMMAF in their efforts to grow the sport of MMA. What are your thoughts on the development? Let us know in the comment section of the article below.
