The 2022 IMMAF Pan American Championships are done and dusted following three days of explosive action in Monterrey, Mexico. The action got underway at 11 am (UTC-5) local time. Sixteen finals took place in Cage 1 to determine the champions of each division.
Mexico’s Brenda Castro and Wendy Widrobo Espinoza got us underway in the atomweight division. It was Castro who had the edge, submitting Espinoza in the second round after taking her back and locking in a rear-naked choke.
In the end, Mexico finished top of the medal table with a tally of six gold medals. Jaime Sierra and Aaron Rios both stood out. Each of them won via submission in their respective division.
Brazil made it a hat-trick of wins in the women’s divisions. Giulliany Perea, Josiane Oliveira and Ana Vitoria Diniz all comfortably won their bouts. Oliveira was forced to go the distance in her bout, while both Perea and Diniz utilised their slick submission skills to win via kneebar.
Caio Sardella rounded off a successful day for Brazil by submitting Puerto Rico’s Anthony Ramirez with a tight guillotine choke during the final seconds of the round.

Adrian Ledezma kicked off the United States’ haul of medals in the seventh bout of the day. He submitted Mexico’s Diego Alexis Torres with a modified guillotine in the opening round. They ended the day with five gold medals following some dominant displays from Jonathan Powell, Anthony Orozco, Shane Collins and Lester Batres Jr.
Trinidad and Tobago earned their sole gold medal of the competition through Jeremy Rodulfo, who returned to the Pan American Championships with a point to prove after crashing out of the competition in 2019. Two victories in as many days saw him earn the heavyweight gold medal.
