Team India meets Ambassador of India to Netherlands ahead of World Championships

The Indian MMA team met with the Ambassador of India to the Netherlands her Excellency Reenat Sandhu on 23 March 2022 ahead of the GAMMA World Championship 2021. The meeting reinforced the strong relationship of 75 years between the two countries that were established since the time that the Netherlands became the first country to recognize India as an independent country. 

Interestingly, Her excellency took time out for the Indian Team from her busy schedule ahead of the upcoming visit of the President of India to the Netherlands in April.

The Ambassador was briefed about the sport of Mixed Martial Arts in India in an interactive session with All India Mixed Martial Arts President (AIMMAF) president Aditya PS giving an overview of the MMA landscape in India with the potential and struggles of the athletes. Also present at the meeting was Team India coach Vishal Seigell who has been playing a crucial role in preparing the athletes for the World Championships.

Her Excellency offered support and assistance to Team India during their stay here in Amsterdam. And in an official statement, the All India Mixed Martial Arts Federation (AIMMAF) appreciated the kind gestures as they are highly motivating to the athletes.

India has a strong team this time around for the GAMMA World Championship which is happening from 23 March 2022 to 27 March 2022 at Amsterdam.

The Team is coming on the back of an excellent campaign at the GAMMA Asian Championships in Kyrgyzstan which saw the team win 22 Medals and finish second in the final table standings. India also won four gold medals at the event with Dinesh Naorem, Akshata Khadtare, Harpreet Kaur and Kishore BK securing gold medals in their respective weight categories.

The GAMMA World Championship will happen at the Sporthallen Zuid, located next to the world-famous Olympic Stadium in Amsterdam. Teams will begin arriving on 23 March for registration, followed by weigh-ins and the competition draw on Thursday, with bouts scheduled to run from Friday through Sunday in front of a live audience. Tickets can be purchased online or directly at the venue. The action will also be streamed live on GAMMA’s Facebook and YouTube channels. Medals will be awarded in 18 weight categories (11 for men and 7 for women).
