Francis Ngannou is all set to defend the UFC Heavyweight Title against Ciryl Gane at UFC 270 and one of the major narratives heading into the fight has been the relationship between Ngannou and his former coach Fernand Lopez.

Lopez is currently working with Ciryl Gane ahead of the fight and during a recent interview with the UFC, Ngannou revealed that his psychiatrist had warned him about Lopez.

“I won’t say I’m surprised knowing the person (Lopez). I always knew that something like this could come from him. She started to break it down and put it in the notes. Now I think she was all right,” Ngannou said (h/t

Ngannou moved away from Lopez after his back-to-back losses to Stipe Miocic and Derrick Lewis a few years back and has been on an impressive run ever since. Lopez, meanwhile, had recently released old sparring footage of Gane dropping Ngannou during training which had rattled some feathers.
