Conor McGregor seems to be leaning towards a potential fourth fight between Dustin Poirier. The former UFC champion is currently recovering from his ankle injury but could be making his return in 2022.
Though settling the scores with Dustin Poirier might be something that interests the Irishman, former UFC star Chael Sonnen believes that McGregor should first fight Nate Diaz.
"As much as people are so quick to say, Dustin, I would quickly counter you with What about Nate Diaz?. I mean Nate was always the ace up the sleeve of everybody. Dana would even talk about that and say it doesn't matter what the time is, it doesn't matter where the tides are going, I can always make that fight. He's right," he said during his Bad Guy INC podcast.
McGregor and Diaz have fought twice so far in the UFC. The first encounter between the two happened back in UFC 196 and Nate shocked the world in the fight when he submitted McGregor in the second round via a rear-naked choke.
Five months later, Conor McGregor leveled terms with Nate at UFC 202 and took home a majority decision victory to set up a trilogy between the two. After this, McGregor went on to win the UFC Lightweight title by defeating Eddie Alvarez and also fought Floyd Mayweather in a big-money boxing match before suffering losses to Dustin Poirier and Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Nate Diaz, on the other hand, fought three times after his outings with Conor. In the first fight, he outclassed Anthony Pettis but the Stockton native suffered losses against Jorge Masvidal and Leon Edwards in the fights that followed.
