Former UFC champion Conor McGregor expresses interest in buying Chelsea FC

Former UFC Champion Conor McGregor is interested in buying Chelsea Football Club. This is after Chelsea’s current owner and Russian Billionaire Roman Abramovich put up the club for sale at a valuation of £ 3billion.

The UFC star tweeted out saying that he is exploring the option of buying the club at the current asking price.

“I wish to explore this. @ChelseaFC” wrote Conor McGregor on his Twitter account.

Interestingly, Conor’s net worth is around £135million and earlier, he had also tweeted about wanting to buy Manchester United.

"Hey guys, I’m thinking about buying Manchester United! What do you think?,” he had tweeted last year.

The Irishman was on top of the Forbes list of highest-paid athletes in 2021 where he was ahead of names like Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

A major portion of McGregor’s income for the year came after he sold his majority stake in Proper 12 Whiskey. He is currently recovering from an injury that he picked up during the fight against Dustin Poirier last year and is expected to make his return to the UFC in the summer.

Abramovich, a Russian-Israeli billionaire, is said to desire to keep his Chelsea ownership. However, if the UK government imposes sanctions on the 55-year-old, who has controlled the west London club since 2003, that might become nearly impossible. The sanctions are expected to be placed on Abramovich due to his close relationships with Russia and President Vladimir Putin.

It is a direct result of the ongoing crisis between Ukraine and Russia which has made many sporting bodies take action against Russia.
