After a two-year break, Angela Lee returned to the ONE Championship Circle at ONE X to defend the ONE Women’s Atomweight World Championship against top-ranked contender Stamp Fairtex.
Despite the time away from her professional activities, “Unstoppable” put in a dominant performance, submitting the Thai dynamo in the second round of their main event tussle.
Now, Lee is on a mission to not only cement her status as atom weight queen but secure gold in another weight class.
“I definitely want to capture the strawweight belt, so I’d love to fight Xiong [Jing Nan] again and step up to strawweight and try to capture that champ-champ status,” the 25-year-old star said.
“Also, there’s a lot of atomweights in the division now, so I’d love to keep defending my title. But I’d like to see the strawweight division grow, just like the atomweight division has grown.”
Lee’s final fight before taking time away from the Circle to focus on starting a family was an atomweight contest against ONE Women’s Strawweight World Champion “The Panda” Xiong Jing Nan in 2019.
“Unstoppable” secured a victory in that bout when she cinched in a rear-naked choke with only seconds left. However, in their previous meeting, she wasn’t so lucky.
The two stars met for the first time earlier that same year when Lee moved up a division to challenge for the strawweight strap. On that occasion, she lost via TKO.
That defeat has stayed with her, and she is eager for another chance to snatch the belt from Xiong.
“I think that I have grown a lot more in these past few years and made a lot more improvements than she has, and I think it can show in our performances. So definitely, when we match up again, it’s going to be a different story, and I think everyone is eager to see it,” “Unstoppable” said.
While Lee is looking forward to stepping back into the Circle as a strawweight, she isn’t looking past the next potential challenger to her atomweight throne, Ham Seo Hee.
“I would love to fight Seo. I think that she has done a great job. I think, right now, it’s clear that she would be the next fight,” the Singaporean superstar said.
