The Professional Fighters League (PFL) has announced the addition of Super Middleweight boxing world champion, Savannah Marshall. Marshall, recognized as one of the most exceptional athletes in women's combat sports globally, drew an audience of over two million viewers during her October 2022 match against Claressa Shields. This bout became the most-watched women's professional boxing event in history.
Marshall is poised to launch her MMA journey within the PFL SmartCage, becoming part of the world's most extensive roster of female combat sports competitors. This distinguished roster includes accomplished athletes like two-time Olympic gold medalists Kayla Harrison and Claressa Shields, PFL World Champion Larissa Pacheco, and Amanda Serrano.
Collectively, these remarkable women are shaping the foundation of PFLW, a platform dedicated to spotlighting women in combat sports. This initiative aligns with PFL's fighter-centric, merit-based approach to MMA.
“I want to welcome two-time boxing world champion, Savannah Marshall to the Professional Fighters League,” said Peter Murray, PFL CEO. “It’s an exciting time for PFL as we officially launch PFLW, and the addition of Savannah Marshall strengthens the best global roster of women in combat sports. PFLW is committed to the empowerment and equality of all female athletes and provides a dedicated platform for women to become PFL MMA champions.”
“I am thrilled to begin my journey in MMA with The Professional Fighters League,” said Savannah Marshall. “I am proud to join the most talented female combat sports athletes in the world and continue to raise the profile of women in sports through PFLW.”
Through the establishment of PFLW, the Professional Fighters League reaffirms its dedication to empower and equalize opportunities for women in combat sports. PFLW is resolute in its pursuit of parity both within and beyond the confines of the PFL SmartCage.
