Former UFC champion Ronda Rousey is speaking out against UFC commentator Joe Rogan and other media personalities, expressing disappointment and frustration over their past criticism of her handling of losses during her MMA career.
In a recent appearance on The Chris Cuomo Project podcast, Rousey highlighted her disdain for how some in the MMA media, including Rogan, reacted to her defeats. She recalled feeling let down by individuals she considered friends in the media who quickly turned on her after losses to fighters like Holly Holm and Amanda Nunes.
Rousey specifically mentioned Rogan, referencing his comments on her skill set during a 2018 episode of The Joe Rogan Experience. She expressed feeling hurt by the perceived change in attitude from someone who had previously shown great respect for her in the Octagon.
"It was disappointing to see how happily everyone turned on me," Rousey stated. "People like Joe Rogan who were crying in the ring out of the honor to call my fights, people I considered friends in the media, so quickly turned on me."
Reflecting on her journey after MMA retirement, Rousey shared insights into her self-discovery and the impact of external perceptions on her sense of self-worth. She acknowledged that the backlash ultimately prompted her to redefine her own identity separate from public opinion.
Rousey's comments come amidst her transition to professional wrestling with WWE following her last UFC fight against Nunes at UFC 207. Despite ongoing speculation about a potential comeback to MMA, Rousey has firmly shut down any notions of returning to the octagon.
