MMAAK Koduvally is set to host the Muay Thai Challenge Event on 18 and 19 February 2023 in Calicut. The event, which will see fighters across five weight categories, will have prizes worth Rs. 1 Lakh up for grabs.
Spearheaded by Ranjith Kunnumal, who is one of the most experienced MMA officials in the country, the event will act as a selection trial for the MMAAK Fight Series which is in the pipeline.
Strawweight, Flyweight, Bantamweight, Featherweight and Lightweight will be the weight categories for the event which will be held at the Calicut Indoor Stadium. The event will follow a tournament format and the winners of each weight class with receive a cash prize along with an opportunity to fight in the upcoming MMAAK Fight Series.
“The aim is to provide a good opportunity for talented athletes. We are also looking into how we can increase the quality of combat sports in Kerala. Even though we have a lot of talented fighters here, there only have a few places to showcase their talent. We hope to provide such a platform for them through this fight series,” Ranjith Kunnumal noted in an exclusive interview with LockerRoom India.
The weigh-ins for the event will kickstart on Saturday, 18 February 2023 in SFC Calicut and this will be followed by finalizing the bracket for the weight classes. The initial fights for the event are expected to kickstart on the second half of 18 February 2023 and followed by the remaining action on 19 February 2023.
The finals will be held from 6:30 PM on 19 February 2023. The entire event will be streamed live on the LockerRoom India YouTube channel while all the updates will be available on the LockerRoom Network Social Media pages.
