Ilima-Lei Macfarlane wants to recapture the Bellator World title.
Before it's time to put the gloves away, one of Bellator's all-time greatest champions has a plan to win back a belt.
Ilima-Lei Macfarlane, the former women's flyweight champion, is scheduled to make a comeback on Saturday to face Kana Watanabe in front of her home crowd at Bellator 295, which takes place at Neal S. Blaisdell Arena in Honolulu.
Macfarlane, a native of Honolulu, would like to call it quits in front of her home crowd if she can recover the 125-pound belt.
“I don’t think I’m going to be one of those that’s like, ‘I’m done,’ and then I’m not. I always say that I do want to retire definitively. The plan is if I win this fight, I’m going to call for a title shot. It just makes sense that the winner of Saturday gets the next shot – and that’ll be it. That’ll be the end,” she said (h/t MMA Junkie).

In late 2020, Macfarlane was defeated by Juliana Velasquez for the women's flyweight belt. Her MMA loss was her very first. After that, she lost two straight matches to Justine Kish until beating Bruna Ellen in August of last year.
“I want to get it out of the way. OK: So (back to Honolulu in) December. … I have no choice but to retire here. All right, if I win on Saturday night, then I’m going to call for the shot and I’m going to call for Uncle Scott (Coker) and Bellator to come back in December. How’s that?,” she added.
