The influence of two-division ONE MMA World Champion Anatoly Malykhin will be felt at ONE Fight Night 35 when his protege Ibragim Dauev steps into the ring against undefeated Akbar Abdullaev on 6 September in a featherweight MMA fight.
What began as a simple request for help has blossomed into a family-like bond that has shaped the 24-year-old Russian's entire approach to professional fighting.
Training at Fight Club Akhmat and One Chance, Dauev credits Malykhin with opening doors that transformed his career.
"I first reached out to Anatoly, asking for help with my fight. He responded immediately and suggested I contact Anita. He advised me. Together, they helped me get a fight in ONE Championship," Dauev explained.
The relationship has evolved beyond typical gym partnerships into something much deeper for both men.
"Right now, I think our relationship is like a brotherhood – we're not just friends, but family. I respect him as my older brother, and he reciprocates my respect," Dauev revealed.
Dauev's perfect ONE record of 3-0 includes victories over previously undefeated fighters Magomed Akaev and Pedro Dantas, establishing his reputation as someone who thrives against elite competition.
Malykhin's guidance extends far beyond technical instruction, influencing every aspect of Dauev's development as both a fighter and person.
"As a mentor, he's really great – he always tells you what to do. His mentorship has influenced me in everything, both in and out of the ring," Dauev noted.
The admiration runs deep as Dauev describes the champion's character.
"He's a great person, a reliable friend, a devoted family man, and an exceptional athlete to follow."
Victory would virtually guarantee Dauev a title shot, validating both his abilities and Malykhin's mentorship.
