Despite experiencing mixed results during his brief stint in the UFC, current WWE star CM Punk harbors no regrets about his foray into mixed martial arts competition.
Attending Saturday's UFC 298 event at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, Punk took the opportunity to reflect on his transition back to the world of professional wrestling following a headline-making exit from WWE several years ago.
In an interview with UFC broadcast partner Sportsnet after the pay-per-view card, Punk expressed a resilient attitude towards seizing opportunities, regardless of the outcome. "You never say never [in the wrestling business]," Punk remarked. "Who thought I would've ever fought in the UFC? I was afforded an opportunity by Lorenzo [Fertitta] and Dana [White], and I would be kicking myself to this day if I said no."
Asserting his commitment to pursuing his dreams, Punk emphasized his proactive approach to life. "I'm not a guy who lives with regret. I will seize opportunities whether people believe I deserve the opportunities or not," he said. "I work hard for my dreams, and I will always chase them."
Reflecting on his return to wrestling, Punk noted the significance of timing and healing. "I think a lot of clouds parted, and time heals all wounds, so when it came back to wrestling, it was the right time," he added.
Despite facing adversity in the octagon, Punk remains undeterred. The 45-year-old, whose real name is Phil Brooks, had two UFC bouts. He suffered a defeat against Mickey Gall at UFC 203 in September 2016 and later faced a unanimous decision loss to Mike Jackson nearly two years later at UFC 225. The latter result was overturned to a no-contest after Jackson tested positive for marijuana, as per the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.
