It was in his tenth grade that Savio Michael found the spark for boxing. Inspired by the Rocky movie series from Sylvester Stallone, he started his boxing journey in 2014, and now, it has become his career and passion.

When he started in 2014, the on-going turmoil in the domestic Indian boxing circuit limited his chances of competing. However, in 2016, after the formation of the Boxing Federation of India, the National Competitions were back on track and that is when Savio managed to make his mark.

He piled up State Level medals in his weight division from 2016 and actively competed in the Nationals as well while the leap into the Professional Boxing scene followed. Although the ship has been sailing smoothly for Savio as of now, financial problems pose a huge hurdle for him.

“I am going through a rough patch right now, my father who was working with the Indian Railways had to take a Voluntary Retirement due to his health concerns and my mother lost her job as a teacher due to the on-going pandemic. Facing all of these during this time, it is adding to the pressure I am going through outside the ring. However, my sister had been supporting us to bridge some of the difficulties,” he said.

Born and brought up in Hyderabad, Savio hails from a family of four. His father, who used to work in the Indian railways was also a national level boxer and has been instrumental in the boxing journey of Savio as well.

Currently sitting on a highlight reel knockout victory at Club Fights, Savio will be returning to the ring soon when he fights Vantaddu Vinod at Club Fights: Deccan Conquest II on January 24, 2021 in Hyderabad. Although these two have fought in the past, Savio admits that it will be a different fight this time around but has full confidence in his knockout power.

“We both faced each other once in the state senior meet where I defeated him. For this time, I can't predict anything about the fight since many things changed. It was an amateur fight earlier and this is professional, a different game altogether, I will be stepping in the ring as any experienced professional and play my game, but one thing I know if he takes my punch directly he's going to drop” he said.

While Vinod is indeed the immediate concern for Savio, in the long run, he hopes to have the Green and Gold Belt around his waist.

“I have always fancied the Green and Gold WBC Belt on my waist and yes I am going to take one very soon,” he concluded.

Club Fights: Deccan Conquest II will happen on January 24, 2021, at the LBS Boxing Arena in Hyderabad, India. The event will be available for ordering on FITE and Sportrecs and will have an exciting fight card with five bouts on offer.
