Rose Namajunas is set to make her return against Danielle Kelly in a grappling match on December 30. The reigning UFC champion will be looking to end 2021 on a winning note in the match but beyond that, she is interested in one name when it comes to fighting in the UFC.
Speaking to MMA Junkie, Namajunas revealed that a rematch with Carla Esparza is what interests her at this moment.
“It’s the only one that makes sense, I can fight anybody, but nothing really interests me other than Carla,” Namajunas noted.
Namajunas and Esparza last fought back in 2014 at The Ultimate Fighter 20 Finale and it was Esparza that came out winning in the fight with a third-round submission. Namajunas has only suffered two losses since this defeat and went on to capture the UFC title as well during his run.
Esparza, on the other hand, is riding high on a five-fight winning streak with wins over Xiaonan Yan, Marina Rodriguez, and Michelle Waterson in her latest outings.
“I think it’s probably maybe because she’s a wrestler or something that they don’t want to give her the fight, I don’t know. Maybe it’s hard for them to get behind her, but I don’t know what it is, really. I do think she was sitting out and waiting for the title shot and that wasn’t the best move, but honestly, I think it just makes sense. Make it happen.” Namajunas added. (h/t MMA Junkie).
