Since it's origin in 1993, Mixed Martial Arts has seen a lot of superstars. Whether it was Royce Gracie, Chuck Liddell, Tito Ortiz, or whether it is Conor McGregor, Jon Jones, Jorge Masvidal, the UFC has seen never been short of Superstars that the fans would pay to watch.
Now, when we speak of this mega-stardom, there is one name we can't really ignore. And that name is NICK DIAZ. Regarded as what one may call The OG of Mixed Martial Arts, Nick Diaz has always been a true veteran of the Fight Game. Having fought his last fight against Anderson 'The Spider' Silva in 2015 in which Diaz suffered a loss which was later overturned due to Silva testing positive for drostanolone metabolites, a form of steroids, Diaz never competed in the Octagon again.
However now, The Stockton native's manager has come out stating that the UFC Veteran is targeting a return back to the Octagon in early 2021. If the return is to happen, the question that arises is, Who will Nick Diaz really face? My 2 potential picks to face Nick Diaz are:
Robbie Lawler: Having fought each other back at UFC 47 in 2004 where Diaz was the victor as he walked Robbie Lawler down and stopped him, MMA fans never got to see an epic rematch between the two.
Both of them since their last meeting went on to have outstanding careers in the sport, but now as they both are at the twilight of their careers with Nick returning after a long time and Robbie facing his biggest slump in the talent stacked Welterweight division, a fight between the two wouldn't hurt much. Even though the fight probably wouldn't hold much significance in the division, I feel that the fans would be willing to watch.
Jorge Masvidal: Considering the fact that Nick Diaz is returning after a 5-year layoff and considering the stage Jorge Masvidal is at in his career this fight probably wouldn't make much sense, but then this fight surely has the background to be one of the biggest fights in UFC History.
Jorge Masvidal faced Nick Diaz's baby brother Nate Diaz back in November 2019 at UFC 244. The fight between Jorge and Nate was won by Jorge as the fight was stopped at the end of the third round by the Doctor due to a cut Nate Diaz received.
After the fight, many believed that the bout shouldn't have been stopped, and also some of Masvidal's comments didn't go well with Nate's older brother Nick Diaz who was looking to seek revenge in the octagon. In his interviews, Nick Diaz stated that he would fight Masvidal and he also said that he believed that he is the original BMF and The BMF Belt belongs to him.
Jorge Masvidal too has been open to the idea of fighting Nick Diaz and there were also rumors linking them both to a fight. So in what could be promoted as an elder brother looking to seek revenge for his younger one, A fight between Nick Diaz and Jorge Masvidal surely has all the right ingredients to be one of the biggest fights in UFC History.
