Four months have passed since the conclusion of the GAMMA European Championships, and all eyes have since been on Amsterdam, Netherlands, where the GAMMA World Championships 2021 will be held this 23-27 March.

As global travel restrictions ease slightly, athletes from more than 50 countries are expected to make the trip to these long-awaited Championships. Due to COVID-19, this is only the second World Championships since the inaugural edition took place in Singapore in 2019, and expectations are high for an action-packed tournament featuring some of the world’s best young amateur athletes competing in MMA and Striking MMA disciplines.

The event will take place at the Sporthallen Zuid, located next to the world-famous Olympic Stadium in Amsterdam. With delegations traveling from all corners of the world, the days in Amsterdam will be filled with plenty of activities, including the World Congress, which will take place on 24 March, as well as a seminar on anti-doping education and a coaches’ workshop. The anti-doping education seminar for athletes and their entourages follows a seminar that was delivered ahead of the European Championships last year in Kyiv, Ukraine by the International Testing Agency (ITA).

Teams will begin arriving on 23 March for registration, followed by weigh-ins and the competition draw on Thursday, with bouts scheduled to run from Friday through Sunday in front of a live audience. Tickets can be purchased online or directly at the venue. The action will also be streamed live on GAMMA’s Facebook and YouTube channels.

Medals will be awarded in 18 weight categories (11 for men and 7 for women).

“I am thrilled to welcome the global MMA community to Amsterdam for these Championships. A lot of hard work has gone into making this happen after a challenging couple of years,” said GAMMA President Alexander Engelhardt. “I want to thank all of the delegations for making the effort to be here and I am confident that these Championships will be a success and that we will have a week of highly competitive competition. The days here in Amsterdam are also a great opportunity to reconnect with the GAMMA members in person and continue to offer the best platform for the growth of MMA globally.”
