Amir Khan promises non-stop action from his fight against Ev Ting

It seems that just a while ago, Amir Khan was one of the top contenders at lightweight, and considered a legitimate threat to the division’s throne. However, the Singaporean standout went on an unexpected three bout skid to top opponents.

He dropped a decision loss to the Philippines’ Eduard Folayang, with the vacant ONE Lightweight World Title on the line. He was then finished by Ariel Sexton via third-round submission in the first round of the ONE Lightweight World Grand Prix.

After Sexton was injured and could not participate in the semifinal round, Khan took his place. It was then that Turkey’s Saygid Guseyn Arslanaliev needed less than three minutes to deliver Khan the first knockout loss of his career.

“Looking back, I realized I was rushing through it all in my last three fights. The back-to-back fights, not being able to sit back and work on my mistakes and move forward. This time, I have had a couple of months to analyze where I went wrong in the past and also learn how to balance all the other simultaneous events happening in my life. I am mentally focused for this upcoming fight and showing the audience how much I have grown since my last fight and what I can do. I am trying not to focus on the results,” he said.

In his next bout, Khan believes he’s learned the lessons he needed to learn, and is looking forward to giving a great performance in front of his countrymen at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

The 25-year-old is scheduled to face Malaysia’s Ev “E.T.” Ting in the co-main event at ONE: EDGE OF GREATNESS, happening this Friday evening, 22 November.

“I am ready to put on a good show for the fans in Singapore and around the world,” Khan said. “I feel this bout will be the fight of the night. It will be non-stop action and will keep the fans on the edge of their seats.”

Ting is also looking to snag the win this Friday, wishing to ride the momentum from his victory over Daichi Abe in July. After losing to Shinya Aoki and Arslanaliev, Ting knew he also had to turn the tide in his career.

Khan understands how hungry his opponent is and knows Ting’s strengths and weaknesses. The thought of facing a formidable opponent has kept him more focused.

“Ev Ting is one of the toughest guys on the lightweight roster. He is very durable and a pretty well-rounded fighter. His strengths are his ability to mix it up pretty well, very scrappy and does well on scrambles. He is not afraid to stand and trade, which may be his strength, but may also be his downfall in some fights,” he added.
